Eraserhead Evening – Details and Registration

Join us for a discussion of David Lynch’s Eraserhead with Derek Smith!

Beginning his career as a painter before turning to filmmaking, David Lynch went on to become one of the most innovative, influential, and divisive directors of the last half-century, plumbing the deepest recesses of the human psyche with a curiosity and fearlessness that’s unmatched. With his 1977 feature debut, Eraserhead, Lynch came right out of the gate with a bold, provocative cinematic language that helped to usher in a new brand of American surrealism, while the film, a midnight movie staple since its release nearly 50 years ago, continues to enrapture and confound audiences in equal measure. Join me for a one-night session where we’ll discuss Lynch’s early influences and explore the themes, motifs, embedded meanings, and singular aesthetic strategies he employed in this thrillingly complex, mind-melting film.

We’ll begin with a presentation (~35-40 minutes) to be followed by a group discussion of the film for the next 60-75 minutes. Time-permitting, I’ll try to give everyone who wants to talk the opportunity to give their thoughts, ask questions and/or debate, and hopefully everyone will walk away with a fuller appreciation of the film!

This registration is free to register and attend. It is tentatively scheduled for November 13th at 8pm EST/5pm PST.
